[bike] sprint vs. blackbird

Yesterday on my way home I pulled up to a red light. I saw someone pull up on my right out of the corner of my eye. At first I thought it was a car half in my lane. Then I realized it was another motorcyclist behaving entirely appropriately. Then I realized he was on a beautiful 2005+ Triumph Sprint ST. I told him I almost got one of those.

"Yeah? Are you Darxus?"

"Your post inspired me to get this."

So the first '05+ Sprint ST I've ever seen in person was purchased because of me. Hah. Recently a Sprint owner and I agreed that if we had to only have one bike, that would probably have to be it.

Fortunately, I don't. I get to have an SV650, one of the best bikes for a curvy race track (in the hands of mortals), and a Blackbird, one of the best bikes on a drag strip. I need to get to one of those.

On my way in to work this morning in my rear view I saw something familiar yet unusual. Another Blackbird in my rear view for the first time. This is the first time I've met a Blackbird owner I didn't know. Three of them are owned by friends of mine. So I've met a total of four other people with Blackbirds. I noticed the black engine cover and asked if it was carburated, he said yes (meaning it was one of the earlier models). It looked great, reminding me I really need to shine mine up. He said the previous owner had stripped off the stock exhaust and replaced it with a four in to one with a carbon can, and pulled off the center stand. Not things I'm interested in, but I can see why someone else might want to drop the weight.
