I got a big cozy sofabed

The only furniture I had in my apartment was my new king size bed, and a camping chair. I had a black fake leather love seat at my old house, but it is still being stored there because I am not very fond of it. I wanted a sofabed or fouton for a long time to provide extra crash space for friends. I wanted to get a nice sectional set, but decided against it, because I have no idea how long I'll live in this apartment, and can't know how well it would fit in my next home. I decided to get the biggest, coziest sofa bed I could find.

There was a convenient Jennifer Convertibles shop near Porter station. I wandered around there a bit, and found one I really liked. It had a bunch of big pillows instead of back cushions, and instead of low arms, the sides were much like the back, which seemed perfect for leaning against while cuddling (a very important function of a sofa). It also had a completely removable cover. But the cushions were down blend, and despite reassurances from the salesman, pinkee was convinced they'd make her not breathe. It couldn't have been that easy.

Jordan's Furniture was suggested to me. Everyone seemed to agree that they would have the best selection in the area. But they wouldn't be very convenient. In Waltham (same town as APC9), a very long ride all the way out to the tip of the D branch of the green line, and then walk 1.9 miles North. 4 people then suggested that I instead take the Commuter Rail from Porter station, which would put me only about a quarter mile from Jordan's. So I took the commuter rail. The wait turned out to be over an hour, so I spent much of it at the very near by Dunkin Doughnuts. The ride was relatively short, and only cost $2.75 (my subway/bus pass wasn't any help). It took me a while to get oriented, but the walk to Jordan's was not long. I wandered aimlessly inside for maybe a minute, before a saleswoman asked if I needed help. I said I wanted a big cozy sofabed. She said "sofabed?" I thought about this question for a moment, concerned that I might have managed to get the words horribly wrong, then said "Yes." She asked about sizes, I said bigger is better, she asked if I meant bed or sofa size, and I said both. She pointed out and described a few to me. I have great difficulty ignoring the fabric when shopping for sofas. This was expected by both pinkee and this saleslady, as they both reminded me I should try to do that.

I did end up getting one that was displayed in fabric I like. It's pretty big, and a queen sleeper. It has 6 big pillows instead of back cushions, and the arms are more like the back than regular arms, like the one I liked at Jennifer Convertibles, which, as I said, I expect to be great for cuddling. The fabric is... I have no idea... something pretty heavy and nice. It looked dark/medium grey, but the lady told me it was some kind of green. As I expected, the green tint is a little more noticeable in the sunlight in my apartment. She sold me a $60(?) warranty so they'll fix it if I rip or stain it in any way over the next 5 years.

I think I had about a two hour wait till the next train home. I decided to walk the 1.9 miles to the green line. It was cold. About 1.5 miles later, as I was crossing a bridge, I noticed stairs leading down. I then realized this was a train station of some sort (Turned out to be Auburndale)). I looked at the schedule, and realized there was a train heading towards convenient subway stations in one minute. Knowing the green line ride is very long, and not knowing how long I would have to wait for it, I ran to the commuter rail platform. That worked out well.

Getting it in was insane. I was quite happy to be letting the movers do it. I don't think getting it in the front door and up to my (2nd) floor was a problem (the stairwell is kind of huge). But the doorways around, and to my apartment were rather inconvenient. They tipped it up on end through the first one. I pulled out my leatherman and removed the light fixture to get it out of their way. They rotated it, walked it through the foyer, into the bedroom. Tipped it up on end into the foyer, brought it out into the kitchen, then took it into the livingroom. Moving this thing out will suck, whenever that happens.

As I was leaving the store, I told the saleslady I didn't expect this process to be so easy. Heh.

So yeah, it's cozy, and I'm happy with it. It makes a fine optical mouse pad.
