loud voices

I needed batteries and chapstick, so we stopped by a 7-11. As we were
getting back in the car, I heard a female voice say very loudly from
across the street "HELLO?" Sounded like a very amplified receptionist
answering a phone. I tried yelling "HI" back, and waiving, but... it
didn't help.
I'm going to go wash my hands.
