3" at 25y w/ my .45

Friday (4/20) I went to
Classic Pistol with
Al, Pirate, Barb, and Pete. I drove Al, the rest were late. I was
shooting my
Kimber 1911 Compact (standard)
at 25 yards, standing. I noticed the guy in the lane next to me was
also shooting at 25 yards, using a
Kimber,
but with what appeared to be a scope mounted on it. I took this as
somewhat of a challenge. And shot what is now my best group so far: 3"
6 shot group at 25 yards. Unsupported, with fixed sites. That target
will be hanging on my livingroom wall shortly.
I eventually got up the courage to ask the guy if I could try his gun -
since I don't think I'd ever even seen a scoped pistol in person. As has
been my experience in the past, the guy was very nice, and happy to let
me try it. What I thought was a scope turned out to be a red dot sight,
which I'd heard of, but never seen. It didn't do magnification - it drew
an illuminated red dot on point of impact. Very much like a laser sight
(which I can't say I've used), except you are the only person who sees
the dot. Pretty neat.
Today (Saturday, 4/21) I went to the
Nockamixon Park range again.
I am continuously surprised by stories I hear of people having
bad experiences with unpleasant people they meet at ranges,
combined with the rather consistently positive experiences
I have with rather nice people at ranges. Today I noticed
someone at the
Nockamixon
range with a gun I believed I recognized - I asked "
Luger
Artillery ?" He responded "Yes." I didn't really think I'd see one
in my life, although I'm beginning to realize that the way my life is
going, I'll be seeing quite a few very interesting pieces. I mentioned a
friend (Pirate) had been interested in obtaining one. He said he could
have that one for about $5,000, with a grin on his face. He said to
get one, you basically had to go to Germany and kill someone. He had
2 other pieces from WWII, unfortunately, I don't remember what they were.
